RECORDER 3 Help Pages

RECORDER 3.x is a powerful database still used by many individuals and local records centres across the UK. Though now replaced by RECORDER 2002, the inevitable withdrawal of formal support by JNCC has left many users feeling unsupported. NFBR wishes to help its members and others who still use RECORDER 3 by providing the following pages. We are working with JNCC and individual NFBR members to provide answers to a range of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and to promote the operation of an independant Users eGroup. All information is provided in good faith, and users are responsible for ensuring they have adequate backups at all times.

IMPORTANT

A RECORDER 2002 update was released at Christmas 2002, and sent  to all registered users of existing Recorder 2000.
That CD and the NBN website also contained a revised update to RECORDER 3.4 which brings the version number to Recorder 3.4.5

Note that the RECORDER 2002 CD contained an update (version 3.4.5) which was later than that available at the time via the NBN website. (version 3.4.3) This later update is essential if data is to be effectively exported from R3.4 to RECORDER 2002. If exporting from R3.4 to RECORDER 2000 you will only need the update to version 3.4.3 as the later update will not function.

The CD also includes a bug fix to a recently discovered problem in N_SQUARES which was giving an incorrect square count for grid squares other than 10km. This is an important fix for anyone needing accurate statistics on rare species. Dot maps and statistics should now tally up!

Anyone wanting to purchase RECORDER 2002 from an authorised reseller should visit the NBN website and click on "Products and Services".
