In 2004 NFBR Council felt that many Local Records Centres received membership benefits which individual recorders do not. It therefore seemed appropriate to LRCs to make a greater contribution to the Federation's running costs. In 2005 the NFBR introduced a new category of "Organisational Membership". See Membership page for full details. Thursday 1 October 2009 saw the formal launch of the Association of Local Environmental Records Centres (ALERC). After several years of planning, the Association, which is constituted as a Community Interest Company, is now open to members from the Local Records Centre (LRC) community.
