13th Annual General Meeting, Friday 8th May 2026

at 1.00pm, at the Signing Tree Venue, Deaf Cultural Centre, Ladywood Road, Birmingham, B16 8SZ

The AGM will be held during the NFBR Conference.

Agenda

1 Welcome and Apologies

2 Minutes of the 12th AGM held as a virtual event on Friday 16th May 2025 (to be circulated)

ACTION: the AGM will be asked to accept these minutes as a true and accurate record.

3 Annual Report for 2025 (to be circulated )

ACTION: the AGM will be asked to note this report.

4 Financial Statement and appointment of an Independent Examiner (to be circulated)

ACTION: The Executive recommends the Financial Statement for 2025 be accepted and Mrs Shirley Bell is asked to be our independent examiner for NFBR accounts for 2026 and 2027.

5 Executive Committee review.

The Executive consists of the NFBR Trustees, namely Simon Pickles (chair), Jodey Peyton (vice chair), Clare Langrick (treasurer) and Graham Walley (secretary). Sarah Whild has retired from the Executive, and the other members are grateful for her commitment and enthusiasm over many years. Giselle Sterry was co-opted onto the Executive during the year and stands for election at this AGM. The Executive would like to increase its numbers by at least two to help share the workload.

ACTION: the AGM is asked to elect Giselle Sterry to the Executive to serve from today until May 2029.

ACTION: the AGM asks all members to consider whether they or a colleague would be able to be a Trustee and join the Executive.

Other proposed Trustees received from the membership will be considered on the day.

6 Advisory Council review

ACTION: The AGM is recommended to vote the following members to the NFBR Council: Keiron Brown, Imogen Cavadino, Martin Harvey, Martin Hicks, Chris Raper, Zoe Simmons, David Slade, Alan Stewart, Sarah Whild and Elaine Wright and to co-opt Damian McFerran, Chloe Smith and John van Breda.

Other proposed Council members received from the membership will be considered on the day.

7 Acknowledgements

Thanks are given to all members for continuing their membership and all committee members for their time and effort to make NFBR effective. Special thanks are given to those who have taken on specific tasks, the newsletter (Sam Amy, Gordon Leel and Jodey Peyton), website (John v Breda, and David Slade), meeting minutes (Jodey Peyton and Graham Walley) and Clare Langrick, Treasurer and Membership Secretary (including annual Charity Commission return), and Jodey Peyton as Vice-Chair.
